Alessandra Petrina is Professor of English Literature at the University of Padua, Italy, where she is also Vice-Rector’s Advisor for Europe, and Head of the School of Humanities. Her research focuses on late-medieval and early modern intellectual history, and on Anglo-Italian and Scoto-Italian cultural relations. She has published, among others, The Kingis Quair (1997), Cultural Politics in Fifteenth-century England. The Case of Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester (2004), Machiavelli in the British Isles. Two Early Modern Translations of the Prince (2009), and Petrarch’s Triumphi in the British Isles (2020), the latter a recipient of the Prize of the Italian Association of English Studies. Her engagement with (and love for) Scottish late-medieval and early modern writing started with her PhD dissertation and continues to this day: as well as publishing articles in this area, she has also edited, with Ian Johnson, The Impact of Latin Culture on Medieval and Early Modern Scottish Writing (2018). Her latest book is Shakespeare. Guida ad Otello (2022). She is currently working on early modern marginalia and translating Othello into Italian.
